stack of old LP records

Want to expand your music collection for free?

The Music and Media Library is having a huge vinyl giveaway Sept. 6–15. There will be more than 7,500 LP records (33 1/3-speed) up for grabs, as well as more than 1,000 CDs. Most feature classical music, but a few rock and jazz albums will also be in the mix. Some music scores and books will also be available.

New items will be added throughout the giveaway. Please bring your own bag(s) to carry your selections.

The giveaway also is a great chance to expand your musical tastes.

As music librarian Peter Shirts says, “Not everything is available through streaming services.” Vinyl records and their covers also make great room decorations, he adds.

Don’t have a turntable? The library has two on-site turntables and two portable turntables that can be checked out for seven days.

The giveaway will be held in the Music and Media Library, on the Woodruff Library’s 4th floor above the front entrance, during regular Music and Media Library hours.

The bulk of the giveaway, which contains materials that were not added to the Music and Media Library’s collection, is from a gift of the late William Hall, a friend of Emory.
