Faculty and staff honored for excellence in teaching, mentoring and more

Deboleena Roy (right), senior associate dean for faculty in Emory College of Arts and Sciences, presented the Emory College Award for Academic Advising to Chris Suh, assistant professor of history, during the college’s diploma ceremony.

Emory University faculty and staff were recognized with multiple awards in conjunction with the 2022 school ceremonies and the conclusion of the academic year. The following awards were conferred across the university’s nine schools:

Candler School of Theology

  • Provost’s Distinguished Teaching Award for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Education: Jennifer Ayres, associate professor of religious education and director of Candler’s Doctor of Ministry program
  • The United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Ministry Exemplary Teacher Award: Jennifer Ayres, associate professor of religious education and director of Candler’s Doctor of Ministry program
  • Staff Person of the Year: Shelley Hart, senior director of academic administration and registrar
  • Faculty Person of the Year: Sarah Bogue, assistant professor in the practice of the history of Christianity and director of digital learning
  • On Eagle’s Wings Excellence in Teaching Award: Susan B. Reynolds, assistant professor of Catholic studies

Emory College of Arts and Sciences

  • George P. Cuttino Award for Excellence in Mentoring: Rachelle Spell, professor of pedagogy in biology
  • Emory Williams Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Awards:
    • Antonio Brathwaite, senior lecturer in chemistry
    • Matthew Payne, associate professor of history
    • Peter Wakefield, professor of pedagogy in the Institute for the Liberal Arts
  • Emory College Award for Academic Advising: Chris Suh, assistant professor of history 

Emory University School of Law

  • Provost’s Distinguished Teaching Award for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Education: Randee J. Waldman, clinical professor of law
  • Most Outstanding Professor Award: Fred O. Smith Jr., professor of law
  • Adjunct Teaching Award: Gary Marsh, adjunct professor

  • Provost’s Distinguished Teaching Award for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Education: Mary Dolan, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology 
  • Evangeline T. Papageorge Distinguished Teaching Award: Varun Phadke, assistant professor of infectious diseases

Goizueta Business School

  • Thomas Jefferson Award: Jeffrey Rosensweig, associate professor of international business and finance; director, Global Perspectives Program
  • Provost’s Distinguished Teaching Award for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Education: Ryan Hamilton, associate professor of marketing
