Emory Williams Awards honor distinguished undergraduate teaching
The old lamp on top of the Emory Gates

The Emory Williams Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award is presented annually as part of Commencement to faculty members in each of Emory’s four undergraduate schools.

The award, which recognizes a record of excellence in undergraduate teaching, was established by Emory Williams, a 1932 Emory College alumnus and longtime trustee.

Emory College of Arts and Sciences selects three award recipients, drawn from the humanities, sciences and social sciences. Each of the other undergraduate schools — Goizueta Business School, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and Oxford College — selects one award recipient.

The 2022 honorees are:

  • Helen Baker, clinical assistant professor, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing
  • Antonio Brathwaite, senior lecturer in chemistry, Emory College of Arts and Sciences
  • Molly Epstein, professor in the practice of organization and management, Goizueta Business School
  • Matthew Payne, associate professor of history, Emory College of Arts and Sciences
  • LaTonia Taliaferro-Smith, senior lecturer in biology, Oxford College
  • Peter Wakefield, professor of pedagogy in the Institute for the Liberal Arts, Emory College of Arts and Sciences
