Emory Women's Sports & Wellness Conference features health experts, new technologies and treatments

Emory Sports Medicine Center will hold its inaugural Women’s Sports & Wellness Conference Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, from 8 a.m. to noon at Emory University School of Medicine, 100 Woodruff Circle, Atlanta, GA 30322. Conference attendance is free, and a complimentary lunch will be available from noon to 1 p.m.

The conference will feature health care experts discussing current topics related to the health and wellness of female athletes of all levels and generations. The conference provides an opportunity to bridge innovative research on the effects of exercise on women’s bodies at all stages of life, and will include information on prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

Topics will include nutritional trends, psychological impacts, and changes in women’s bodies during adolescence, pregnancy and aging. In addition, medical experts will provide new information on cutting-edge technologies and treatments used at Emory Healthcare and nationally, all while providing networking opportunities with colleagues and thought leaders in the field.

The conference is appropriate for female athletes, weekend warriors, senior athletes, fitness moms, expecting (or soon to be) athletes, parents of young athletic girls and young athletes, adolescent athletes, coaches and athletic directors.

The conference features 24 panelists including sports medicine physicians, athletic trainers, nutritionists, physical therapists, sports psychologists and researchers. Featured speakers include Mandy Blackmon, head physical therapist, Atlanta Ballet; Jessica Cohen, head physical therapist and athletic trainer, Atlanta Dream; Kate Edwards, physical therapist, CEO/Owner, Precision Performance; Kensa Gunter, clinical sports psychologist, Gunter Psychological Services, LLC; and Joan Reed, athletic trainer, Emory Sports Medicine Center, head athletic trainer, Decatur High School, and previous athletic trainer for U.S. Soccer.
