Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital recently joined several exhibitors at the Sandy Springs Education Force’s STEAM Showcase (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) at North Springs Charter High School.

During the sixth annual event, middle- and high-school students had the opportunity to engage with Emory Saint Joseph’s employees and learn about a variety of careers in healthcare such as a technician, pathologist and chemist in a medical laboratory; physical, speech and occupational therapy; and robotic surgery.

Through several hands-on activities, students operated a da Vinci surgical system used by surgeons to complete minimally-invasive robotic surgery, and learned about the wide variety of cardiac, thoracic, urological, gynecological, oncology and general procedures performed at Emory Saint Joseph’s.

Additionally, students assumed the role of a patient in physical and occupational therapy exercises and examined petri dish samples as a lab technician.
