Emory Clinic's Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery division, part of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, is hosting "Break Free from PFDs," an event where women can learn more about pelvic floor disorders (PFDs). The event will take place on Nov. 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the Glenn Auditorium at Emory University Hospital Midtown.

Emory's event is part of a nationwide series of "Break Free from PFDs" events held during Bladder Health Week (Nov. 10-14). PFDs include bladder control problems, bowel control problems, pelvic organ prolapse and sexual dysfunction.

"One in three women will experience a pelvic floor disorder in her lifetime," says Gina Northington, MD, PhD, director of the division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and assistant professor of gynecology and obstetrics at Emory University School of Medicine. "Because of the stigma surrounding these conditions, many women suffer in silence, but these disorders are not a normal part of aging and can be treated successfully."

At the Nov. 12 event, specialists from multiple disciplines, including gynecology, urology, colorectal surgery, and physical therapy, will be on hand to present information about PFDs and answer questions.

An RSVP to Terry Fleming-Ray (tflemin@emory.edu) is requested but not required.
