Discover 'The Joy of Sax'

Saxophonists Leo Saguiguit and Will Scruggs will join Emory pianists Elena Cholakova and Gary Motley for "Jazz Meets Classics: The Joy of Sax" on Saturday May 3 at 8 p.m. in Emerson Concert Hall at the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts.

The event, part of the 2013-2014 Emerson Series and hosted by The Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta, is free and open to the public and no tickets are required.

Saguiguit and Cholakova will perform classical selections, and Motley and Scruggs will perform jazz selections.

Since 2003, Scruggs has appeared on over 25 albums, including records produced by Dallas Austin, Noel Alphonso and Oliver Wood. As a member of the Funderhorns, Scruggs has also performed with Natalie Cole and John Cowan and recorded commercially with Cee-Lo Green.

Saguiguit teaches and performs as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and abroad. He collaborates with numerous chamber ensembles and currently performs with the Athens (Greece) Saxophone Quartet, the Chicago Saxophone Quartet, the Missouri Saxophone Quartet, Trio Chymera, and the Odyssey Chamber Music Series of Columbia. Saguiguit is associate professor of saxophone at the University of Missouri.
