Emory Physical Therapy is now the official provider of physical therapy and sports medicine for Atlanta Ballet. The clinic will provide screenings, physical therapy, massage therapy, injury prevention support and physician coverage for injuries.

"We're so happy to bring our cutting-edge, researched-based treatment to this group of world-class dancers found right here in Atlanta," says Marcia Toye-Vego, Emory Physical Therapy's primary physical therapist for Atlanta Ballet. "To be able to play a part in helping Atlanta Ballet perform at their optimal best is something our entire staff is excited about."

The relationship between Emory Physical Therapy and Atlanta Ballet began almost 20 years ago when Lamar Fleming, MD, former chair of Emory's Department of Orthopaedics saw the need to deliver care to the Atlanta Ballet performers. Toye-Vego continued the relationship in 1995 and traveled to the studios three times per week to assess, treat, and help coordinate physician appointments for the performers.

"Many of the issues we treat are usually associated with ‘over-use,' says Toye-Vego.  "This is something that's very common with dancers. Individualized therapy is always the key to a full recovery, whether you're a world-class athlete or a weekend warrior."

"We have extensive experience with dance injuries," says Sam Labib, MD, orthopaedic surgeon at Emory Sports Medicine Center in Atlanta.  "We think of dancers as high caliber athletes, especially ballet dancers, and are always happy to help them get back to what they love doing."
