South Korean Ambassador to the U.S. Choi Young-jin will deliver a public talk on U.S.-Korea relations Thursday, March 7 at Emory University. His lecture, which comes on the heels of South Korea’s recent presidential election, begins at 5 p.m. in Boynton Auditorium of Goizueta Business School, 1300 Clifton Rd.
Choi’s talk is part of “U.S.-Korea Connections,” an event presented by Emory’s Halle Institute for Global Learning and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Atlanta. Jae Hyun Chung, president and CEO of the IT company SK C&C USA, opens the afternoon at 3:45 p.m. with a discussion of the Korean IT sector and its growing presence in the United States.
Choi previously served as South Korea’s permanent representative to the United Nations from 2005 to 2007, after which U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed him to be his special representative for Côte d’Ivoire. Prior to that, he was vice minister for foreign affairs and chancellor of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security.
He has served as ambassador to Austria and Slovenia and as deputy minister for policy planning and international organizations, responsible for foreign policy planning, North Korean affairs, the United Nations system, disarmament and nonproliferation, and democracy and human rights. Choi first joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1972.
Admission to the public lecture is free, but guests should register to attend.
