Goizueta offers Summer Business Institute for non-majors

The Goizueta Summer Business Institute is a three-week intensive introduction to business fundamentals, open to rising juniors and seniors from any college or university.

The summer institute is covered by courtesy scholarship for eligible Emory University faculty and staff and carries a total of six academic hours. Classes begin June 3 and run through June 21.

An interdisciplinary offering that utilizes many of the faculty in the business school, the summer institute is designed to help students in all majors understand how their academic passions can be activated in applied organizational settings.

This experience offers non-business majors an introduction to business fundamentals and the dynamics of working in a professional setting. The primary academic course, "Fundamentals of Business," builds awareness of various fields of business, and is supported by a project that gives students the opportunity to use their newly-acquired knowledge in an applied setting. The institute's "Professional Exploration" seminar offers a variety of tools including leadership development, career insights, resume writing, networking and interviewing.

"Goizueta Summer Business Institute students will emerge from the program with a new way of thinking about their own expertise, a concrete example of how those abilities can add value to an organization, and the confidence and terminology that will allow them to effectively showcase their abilities," says Andrea Hershatter, senior associate dean and director of the BBA Program at Goizueta.

Now in its second year, the Summer Business Institute received rave reviews from last year's participants who noted the  benefits of enhanced knowledge and augmented confidence.

"I have garnered much more of an interest in business, as well as a greater ability to understand what is going on in the business world. As I begin applying for jobs next year, I am so much more confident in what I am talking about," says Anna Ross, a 2012 Summer Business Institute participant.

Applications are due April 1.
