Bike Emory hosts free safety class for confident city cycling

Bike Emory is hosting a free Confident City Cycling class on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a campus location to be determined soon. The class will be led by the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition (ABC).

The class consists of three segments: a classroom portion, followed by a workshop on the basics of bicycling safety; then a bike ride, according to Bike Emory Director Jamie Smith.

The class will focus on "rules of the road, riding in traffic, how to make quick stops if you need to and how to increase your visibility as you ride," says Smith.

"Anybody, regardless of experience, can benefit from the class," he adds.

ABC says "even the most seasoned bicyclists will have their eyes opened on the less intuitive aspects of Atlanta biking. Participants will emerge a safer, more confident cyclist from every angle."

Participants should bring a bike and a helmet, lunch and snacks.

Register for the class, which is limited to 20.
