Berry Bash concludes this year's Farmers Market

The last Emory Farmers Market for the academic year goes out with a bash. The 4th annual Berry Bash is Tuesday, May 8, from noon to 2 p.m. on the Cox Hall Bridge.

This last market until August features Miles Berry Farm, a medium-sized, family-owned berry farm in south Georgia.

Both blueberries and strawberries, conventional and organic, are grown on the farm.

But, says sustainable food educator Julie Shaffer, "This year, with the mild winter and even milder spring, their strawberries peaked early. Therefore, they will only have blueberries for sale at the Berry Bash, as well as some blueberry bushes for aspiring gardeners."

Lemon poundcake with blueberries and blueberry cheesecake bars will be featured foods, starring the berries.

Shaffer notes that the bash is "designed to spotlight and celebrate this Georgia agricultural product."

The Emory Farmers Market is held Tuesdays from noon to 5 p.m. throughout the academic year. Special events are held monthly during summer. The market events are sponsored by the Sustainable Food Initiative in cooperation with Emory Dining.
