Emory has partnered with the Mexican Consulate of Atlanta.

Fueled by disparities in COVID-19 outcomes in the Latino community, a team of researchers at Emory University has partnered with the Mexican Consulate of Atlanta to test members of the Hispanic community for COVID-19.

Led by Jodie Guest, PhD, MPH, vice chair of Rollins’ department of epidemiology, the partnership will test up to 600 people, including consulate employees, and will take place on August 8-9 at the Consulate, located at 1700 Chantilly Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30324.

“With rates of COVID-19 more than three times higher than the state average, testing in the Latino population in Georgia is critical,” says Guest. “Emory is thrilled to continue this important collaboration with the Mexican Consulate of Atlanta to offer testing events.”

“Offering COVID-19 testing, in partnership with Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health, will help to ensure access to Mexicans and other Latinos across metro Atlanta,” says Javier Díaz de León, Consul General of Mexico in Atlanta. “We are at a critical point in this pandemic and need to ensure that everyone is tested.”

The Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta will continue to work with Emory to maintain these services on a regular basis during the pandemic.

Other testing events for the Latinx community will take place in Cumming and Warner Robins. These events will be led by Valeria Cantos, MD, and Paulina Rebolledo, MD, assistant professors in the division of infectious diseases at Emory University School of Medicine:
