Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women, claiming the lives of more than 600,000 Americans each year.  Emory Healthcare is inviting people to participate in several heart-related activities during February's American Heart Month to help raise awareness surrounding this common disease.

Emory Healthcare is hosting two heart-related web chats during the month of February to discuss mitral valve disease and heart disease among women. Emory physicians participate in these chats on a regular basis, connecting live on the Web with members of the community who join to ask questions and learn more about important health issues.

Heart Disease Among Women – Emory Healthcare cardiologist Alexis Cutchins, MD, will host the first web chat on Feb. 11 from 12-1 p.m. EST. She will answer questions and seek to educate participants on heart disease risk factors, symptoms, prevention and treatments for women.

Mitral Valve Disease - The second chat, scheduled for Feb. 25 from 12-1 p.m. EST, will be hosted by cardiac surgeons Douglas Murphy, MD and Michael Halkos, MD. They will be available to answer questions about mitral valve disease, mitral valve regurgitation and treatment possibilities, including the option of minimally invasive robotic surgery.
