Faculty recognized for excellence in teaching at school ceremonies

The Emory Williams Award for Distinguished Teaching is the University's most prestigious teaching award, established in 1972 by alumnus Emory Williams to honor faculty for fostering participation, inquiry and creative expression in the classroom; proving a model for teaching and scholarship; and serving as a mentor to students.  

Presented with Emory Williams Teaching awards at their school diploma ceremonies were:  

  • Douglas Bowman, professor and McGreevy Term Chair in Marketing, Goizueta Business School

  • Timothy Dowd, associate professor of sociology, Emory College

  • Martha Grace Duncan, professor of law, School of Law

  • Jennifer Foster, professor of nursing, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing

  • Michael Goodman, associate professor of epidemiology, Rollins School of Public Health

  • Luke Timothy Johnson, Robert W. Woodruff Professor of New Testament and Christian Origins, Candler School of Theology

  • Clark W. Lemons, professor of English, Oxford College

  • David D. Lloyd, associate professor of pediatrics, School of Medicine

  • Sarah McPhee, professor of art history, Emory College

  • Rachelle Spell, senior lecturer in biology, Emory College

The following 2013 faculty teaching awards were presented at school diploma ceremonies:

Candler School of Theology

  • Faculty Person of the Year: Ellen Ott Marshall, associate professor of Christian ethics and conflict transformation
  • On Eagle's Wings Excellence in Teaching Award: Steffen Lösel, associate professor in the practice of systematic theology

  • Distinguished Advising Award: Dianne M. Diakité, associate professor of religion and African American studies

Goizueta Business School

  • The Marc F. Adler Prize for Excellence in Teaching: Brad Killaly, associate professor in the practice of organization & management
  • Donald R. Keough Award for Excellence for faculty: J.B. Kurish, associate professor in the practice of finance; Donald R. Keough Award for Excellence for staff: Wendy Tsung, associate dean & executive director of MBA Career Management Center
  • BBA Distinguished Educator Award: Allison Burdette, associate professor in the practice of business law
  • MBA Teaching Excellence Award – Classic Faculty: Ray Hill, senior lecturer in finance
