Honors for Castellino, Tate and Young

Craig Castellino has been awarded an inaugural Springboard grant from Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a national fundraising movement for childhood cancers.  

Castellino is assistant professor of pediatrics in the School of Medicine.

Castellino researches the aggressive childhood brain tumor, medulloblastoma and the cancer-causing gene WIP1 for a better understanding of how medulloblastomas become aggressive and strategies to treat them.

Joseph Tate won the inaugural REAL Award in the field of newborn and mother care. Tate was one of nine winners recognized for their extraordinary service in health care.  

Tate is clinical assistant professor in the School of Medicine.

Created by Save the Children in partnership with the Frontline Health Workers Coalition, the awards were presented at the Inaugural Patient Safety, Science & Technology Summit, attended by former president Bill Clinton.

Kevin Young's book "The Grey Album: On the Blackness of Blackness” has been named a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award in criticism.  

Young is Atticus Haygood Professor of Creative Writing & English, Curator of Literary Collections and Curator of the Raymond Danowski Poetry Library at the Manuscript, Archives, Rare Book Library.  

The winners will be named Feb. 28. The awards are presented for works published in 2012.
