Listen up! 'Summer Winds' is back on WABE-FM

"Summer Winds," a program of wind band music hosted by Emory's Scott Stewart, returns to 90.1 WABE-FM Tuesdays from July 24 through Sept. 4 at 9 p.m.

Scott, who is director of wind studies, hosts the program, which is in its sixth year. "We are planning on going national with NPR [National Public Radio] affiliates next season," he says.

This year, he will feature  wind music with Southern associations; percussion and the wind ensemble; a variety of marches; wind music in extreme tempos, which Scott describes as "a back-and-forth of very slow and very fast pieces;" and familiar classics from the standard repertoire from wind band.

A wind ensemble is essentially a "concert band" — groups of wind and percussion instruments that play "concert music, " explains Scott, who also leads the Emory Wind Ensemble and the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony.
